As of today, the wait is over. After a couple of tense days and a final morning with sweaty hands, it is done. Within 30 minutes of being 100% sure Mandy’s house is sold, we signed for our new home. We are still able to cancel the whole deal within 3 days. And there’s a non-zero percent chance that the deal falls through, mostly due to reasons that can only be found in the small print.
But let’s not think about the negative. There’s always a negative side to things. And if I focus too much on the things that are marked in red, life wouldn’t be so much fun. It’s better to be happy most of the time, sad sometimes, and stressed almost never.
We bought a house that is advertised as spacious, with character, and full of possibilities. Exactly what Mandy and I were looking for. Plus, with my calculations and predictions, there’s almost no financial downside. Of course, there are risks involved. However, as before: let’s stay away from the dark side.
For sure, while dreaming, character building, and renovating, there will be lots more arguments, setbacks, and unforeseen circumstances. I’m not going to name possibilities, as I don’t want to be the fortune teller of my own misfortune. I’m going to let time do the heavy lifting. Time is a secret force that is super powerful if combined with patience and perseverance.
At the beginning of 2026, I would have never thought that I would be a homeowner, together with Mandy. I would have never thought to own a canal house. If we go back a year, Mandy and I would have never thought that we would have such an easygoing baby. If we zoom further back, we could only hope that our business would sell more than 15.000 units in two and a half years. If we go back even further, Mandy and I would have never thought that we would be in such a respectful relationship.
The thing about time is this: we can look back in time and see how far we’ve come. But no one can look into the future and predict how things will turn out. You’ve got to have a bit of faith and luck, in combination with determination and execution. Then, for sure, things will move forward. Maybe not exactly in the direction you’ve set out to sail. Maybe you get to your goals with a detour. Maybe it takes longer than you wanted. Or maybe it didn’t take you where you wanted to be.
But the most important thing is to look back from time to time. Only then can you see where and how far time has blown you.
