It doesn’t matter if you’re broke or a billionaire. Every living soul has this one thing in common. We all have 24 hours in a day. According to sleep studies, you should sleep eight hours. How you spend the rest of your time determines who you are as a person. That sounds harsh, but let me explain.
Let’s go to the extremes first. Some people sleep more than eight hours. And the time that they don’t sleep, they spend on non-productive things, such as gaming and binge-watching series. On the opposite side of the spectrum are the ones who sleep less than they should, let’s say 4 hours. The rest of the day, they are busy. So busy that they forget to eat. Let’s agree that both are not great ways to live life.
So, what is a great way to live? Well, that totally depends on who you are as a person. But as I said in the intro; how you spend your time determines the person who you are. If you like to cook and eat, you are a foodie. If you like to hang out in the gym all day, you’re a gym nerd. If you’re always working, you’re a workaholic. You get the deal.
But what if you do many things in one day? What are you then? Not focused, for sure. Not organized? Maybe. A busy bee? For sure! I’m falling into this category as a person. Some might say I’m a jack of all trades. Others will say I’m jumping from project to project. I think if you’re like me, multiple contradictory descriptions can be true at the same time.
In a world that loves statistics and linear graphs, I work differently. My progress is not linear. It mostly goes up; sometimes it stagnates. Sometimes, I have to take a step back. But it’s always messy. Where most people will run a marathon trying to maintain their pace, my marathon will consist of sprints and pit stops.
I don’t think that one way is better than the other. It’s more important that you recognize that there are different ways of spending your day. Either way, it’s not good to be known as the lazy person, or as the person who only has time for himself. Whatever lies in between is up to you.
