Do or do not. There is no try.

INHOUDSOPGAVE

Yoda, a totally fictional character who is supposed to be a Jedi master, came with the best piece of general wisdom. “Do or do not. There is no try.” I think the simplicity is what makes it hit so hard. No one can, nor should, argue about this statement. Here’s why.

In our lives, we all say uncountable amount of times “I want…”. Fill in the blank with anything you want. We all want things. But there’s a catch. The thing that you want doesn’t appear out of thin air. There is no God who will grant you a wish. There is no rubbing a genie in a bottle until it squirts out the thing that you want. Even if there were a genie, the rubbing part is already defying the naysayers.

You have to do something if you want something. If you want something, but you don’t want to move rocks to get it, chances are rounded up to 100% that you will never get what you desire. And depending on the scale of what you desire, even if you move all the rocks in the world, you might never get it.

So now we agree that moving rocks makes things happen. It stirs things up. You get closer to your desires. That is, if you move the rocks in the right direction. To improve the chances of turning your dream into reality, you also have to snap out of your sleep. You have to turn your dream into a belief. Turn a yes, I want into a yes, I will.

If you keep staying stuck on “at least I tried”, you will never get what you wanted in the first place. Sometimes, or better yet, most of the time, that’s perfectly fine. You didn’t want that thing badly enough. But at least you did something. And for that thing that you really really want. That you can’t stop thinking about. That you keep binge-googling about. Don’t stop the ‘doing’ part too soon. You’ll never know what you’ll find around the next corner.
