Today, on Monday, I had a drink with an old school friend. We have known each other since we were about 14. When I came home, it was already 23.30. For most people already past bedtime. I still had to finish writing our Thais Tafelen newsletter and this blog.
Usually, I start writing the newsletter around 21.00 and this blog somewhere between 23.00 and midnight. But today, I had a couple of beers. The newsletter is done, but this blog…I think I have to keep it at this for today.
But I made a promise to myself to write every day. For how long? I don’t know. Today is not the day to lose my streak. Building a daily streak is a linear thing. As time progresses on the X-axis, the amount of output increases on the Y-axis. Output and creativity, however, are never linear.
There is just no way you can produce a banger every day. Creativity is not something that can be summoned on command. But a habit can be followed. And habits lead to happy accidents. You just don’t know when. The only thing I know is that this blog is not a banger. And that’s okay. Tomorrow, there will be another chance.
