Sometimes things can get worse

INHOUDSOPGAVE

Yesterday, it was 00:56 when I finished writing my story. Today, it’s 01.20 in the middle of the night. But I’m not finished. I’m just starting. Somehow things got even worse. So, I’ll keep it short for today.

The fact that I’m still writing this is not because of discipline. Nor willpower. While my brain functions at around 50%, I’m sure that my primal ape brain would not approve of writing a story. If I were a totally natural creature, I should be sound asleep by now.

Apparently, I’m not normal. Because a larger force than sheer will is guiding me. Some would say it’s the hand of the almighty man above the clouds. Some would say I’m the equivalent of a male witch. Some would say I’m a madman on a mission.

I don’t know how to describe it. There’s just an inner desire. I want to write. Nay, I need to write. The forming of a new habit kicks in. It’s like creating a drawing. The first couple of pencil strokes don’t make any sense. The more strokes you add, the more the drawing starts to come alive.

Then, you’ll reach a point that you don’t want to stop drawing anymore. It will become so bad that you even start questioning yourself when the drawing is finished. You’ll never be satisfied. You have to stop at some point. But when?

Well, with writing every day, I’m getting better at putting my thoughts on (digital) paper. My storytelling improves bit by bit. My creativity activates story after story. And here’s the trick. The point of stopping is to post and start all over again. The high you get is not from perfection; it’s from finishing. It’s just so satisfying to finish something.

The thought of having written a story makes me actually excited to start a new story. Heck, I might even write another one now. Or… am I becoming a junky now?

Good night.
